The longest running active damsel among
400 or so all male member BMW M Club Korea – c’est moi! Freelance interpreter by profession,
I have always been passionate about cars.
Rather unusual for a female, which is probably why I am driving BMW M3.
My first encounter with the legendary machine was at a basement parking lot.
At a glance, it appeared to be a modest looking BMW but the roar of its engine made my heart skip a beat. It was glorious music to my ears!
From that day on, the M3 became my dream car. But the high-performance sports coupe was a gigantic leap from previously owned humble Kia and VW.
For over a year, I toiled over a list of candidates, including Mercedes C63 and Audi S4.
I even went for a test drive in the C63 and very nearly ended up buying one.
But my heart was set on the M3. I wanted a test drive but no matter how hard I tried, there were no availabilities at any of the dealers.
Just as I was ready to give up, I learned about the BMW M Club Korea on the internet. I explained about my ordeal and asked if they could help this poor lady in distress.
A prompt reply had me join their group driving, which made me realize more than ever that this was going to be my next chariot.
Finally, in April 2011, I became the proud owner of a stunning E92 M3.
Fast forward to year 2017 and ‘Volante’ (her pet name) is still the greatest love of my life.
She is the last of the M3 model to be powered with NA engine, which makes her even more special.
She wears the face of an elegant beauty but lets her hair down when the time calls for it!
There have been many joyful moments together with beloved chariot.
The BMW M Club Korea Track Day at the driving circuit, group driving with the Club members far and away, and the most unforgettable experience of all, 2014 MCK Road Tour in Europe.
The first ever tour of its kind taken by a Korean auto club, the expedition started from Nurburgring, the legendary racing circuit and mecca for automotive enthusiasts, where I became quite possibly the first Korean female to drive around the Nurburgring Nordschleife! We discovered the heritage of German automotive industry at the Porsche and the Mercedes-Benz Museums in Stuttgart, and of course, the BMW Welt and Museum in Munich.
The beautiful sunset in Hallstatt, the splendid Mirabell Palace and Gardens in Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, the picturesque spa town of Baden-Baden situated in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg and driving on Europe’s top 10 drive courses including the Alpenstrasse (Alpine Route), Klausen, Furka and Grimsel Passes of the Alps are some of my fondest memories.
My treasured M3 will continue to play an influential part in my life. Here’s to many more years of joy and excitement with ‘Volante’!
